Point Cloud Classifications

The classes qApp uses to label points, and the color each one shows in the viewer

Updated on October 23rd, 2026

When a capture is processed, qApp automatically classifies every point in the point cloud, so you can show, hide and export features such as ground, buildings and poles separately. Each class has a code (the number stored in the exported .laz file), a name, and the color it's shown in the qApp viewer.

Standard and Looq classes

Codes 0 to 63 follow the ASPRS LAS 1.4 classification standard, so most point cloud software recognizes them. Codes 64 and above are in the ASPRS user-definable range and are specific to Looq. Other software will usually show these by number only, so you may need to rename or recolor them after importing.

Good to know

  • Change colors and visibility. In qApp (client.looq.ai), use the Point Cloud Options toolbar to change the color of any class, or turn classes on and off in the viewer. Top change the color of the class, click on the colour square to reselect the color.
The Point Cloud Options toolbar in qApp, where you can change the color of a class.
  • Colors only apply in qApp. The colors above are qApp's defaults. Other software uses its own color scheme for the same codes.
  • Your organization may differ. Some organizations have custom class settings, so the classes or colors you see in qApp may not match this table exactly.
  • Exporting. Classifications are included when you download the point cloud. See Point Cloud for export details.
