Starting Captures Processing

Discover tips for efficiently assigning captures to a site and starting the processing.

Updated on October 8th, 2026

The Uploads page is where captures enter Looq, where you assign them to a site, and start the processing after you have completed the field work and capture upload (found here: Uploading from the qCam).

The list of captures in the Uploads tab, with a red circle showing where to find the Uploads tab.

The Uploads page. Captures group under Unassigned until they're given a site; each row carries a live progress bar and the capture's scan ID.

Columns give you the capture name, its site (or Unassigned) duration, file size, upload date, creation date, and progress. There's a search box, a Filters control, and a delete action per row — which soft-deletes and removes the capture from the unassigned list. A soft-deleted item has 30 days in which it can be restored, but will be fully deleted after that.

The first part of this article describes how to start a capture from a direct upload from the qCam and the second part of the article describes how to upload when you have downloaded the file to your computer.

Assigning a Capture to a Site from the qCam

The bell at the top right of your screen will show a red dot when your qCam has uploaded to the site.

The qApp top bar, with a red circle around the bell icon in the top right corner. A red dot on the bell shows that a capture has uploaded.

When the bell is clicked, it will show a list of the captures that can be added to sites. Click on the file name to start the upload wizard.

The upload wizard

+ Upload Capture opens a full-page wizard with four steps. It adapts to what you're uploading: If you do not have a local base station, the base-station step can be skipped.

1.    Site

Choose where the captures belong. Select an existing site from the dropdown, or Create New Site inline without abandoning the upload. Captures uploaded without being assigned will simply wait for your action and will not be automatically processed. Once a site is assigned, you can click Next at the bottom of the screen.

The site step in the Upload Wizard. A red circle shows where to assign an existing site, and a purple circle shows where to create a new site.

Step 1. Pick a destination site (red circle), or create one on the spot (purple circle). Next at the bottom right of the page stays disabled until a site is chosen.

2.    Upload captures

a) If you uploaded from the qCam, the file will already be available to you in the Upload captures tab. You can load your zipped RINEX files here if you have a local base station.

b) If you are uploading capture files from your computer:

Add your .lmr capture files. Drop RINEX files here too, alongside the captures — that's what tells the wizard you intend to use your own base station.

3.    Base Stations

You're choosing how each capture gets its correction:

◦       Auto base — Looq picks the nearest suitable reference station. The right answer unless you ran your own base.

◦       Local base — a base already saved for your organization, or the RINEX you just uploaded. This is optional.

In the following window, the RINEX files can be loaded by clicking “Upload” or by dragging and dropping the file. If local base station files are not available, just click “Review”.

When a local base is chosen, Looq validates the RINEX and compares time windows: the base must actually have been recording while the capture was. Enter the base coordinates — decimal degrees, DMS, or projected site coordinates. It is also possible to run PPP (see Using Local Base Station for more details) to compute a precise position from the observation file itself. A map plots what you typed, so a transposed sign is caught before it propagates through the job.

4.    Review

The destination site and every capture with the base it's been assigned. Flip an individual capture between auto and local here rather than going back. When it reads correctly, confirm — and processing begins.

Uploads are large. Captures run to many gigabytes. Please ensure that your connection remains stable during the course of the upload. Please leave the tab open so that uploading can continue in the background.

Captures that arrived without a site

Field crews often upload before anyone has decided where the data belongs (Uploading Captures from the qCam). Those captures sit under Unassigned and hold — nothing processes until they have a home. Tick the ones you want to place and use Add to Site; you'll go through the same site / base station / review steps, and processing starts on confirm. The same flow re-assigns a capture that landed on the wrong site.
