Electric Utility companies can capture their critical infrastructure and use intelligent digital twins and integrated analysis to optimize designs, improve power flow decisions, ensure safety and efficiency of inspection and maintenance, and proactively mitigate or respond quickly to reliability and resilience issues. Engineering and Survey companies can quickly improve their bottom-line field resource costs, all while improving project deliverables and ensuring timely and risk-free project completion.
1. Can you capture transmission & distribution overhead? Yes. The Looq platform provides up to a 100x improvement in fielding time-which for example, reduces a multi-hour as-built survey with a total station of a transmission pole to 45 seconds per pole capture. The technology provides orders of magnitude for field assessment improvements, in terms of speed and quality, and unites downstream applications with a single and easy to use one-stop solution.
- Update existing asset management databases,
- Use for complex engineering tasks such as pole-load analysis and phase tracing
- Use as a trustworthy record that can be survey certified for an as-built.
2. Can you capture power lines?
Yes. The hardware and software combination of the Looq platform is capable of reconstructing power lines.
3. Can you capture details on cross lines of power poles?
Although Looq recommends performing captures parallel to power lines for the best results, our technology is capable of reconstructing cross lines under most circumstances.
4. Can you zoom in on insulators of power poles?
Image resolution and zoom capability will depend on the distance from the user to the insulator, but users following Looq’s recommended capture procedures will be able to zoom in on insulators using the qApp.
5. Can Looq be used for electrical undergrounding projects?
Yes. Capture everything needed to support mapping for undergrounding projects all at once. Looq’s qAI processing produces an orthomosaic image, and ground elevation information that can be brought into common CAD platforms, and the qApp contains detailed panoramic imagery for virtual walk-throughs.
The built-in strobe lights of the camera can work in small, enclosed spaces (e.g. manhole and vault imaging) to generate as-builts and for fault identification.
- Reduce operational deployment cost/difficulty because the camera can get mounted on a hot-stick and removes confined space safety requirements, and thereby reduces crew size and cost.
- Generate a reliable and verifiable source of information for all future work in that area.
- Enable rapid coordination between utilities, engineering firms and contractors to ensure safe, timely and cost-efficient project completion.
6. Does the qCam work underground?
The capture for underground projects happens above-ground. The camera does not capture underground.
7. Can you capture substations?
Yes. Looq's data capture enables substation 3D capture. Small substations can be captured without entering, but Looq recommends gaining access to larger sites.
8. Can I use the camera to capture indoor areas?
Looq anticipates supporting indoor scanning in a future release.
9. Can I capture utility markout information?
Yes. The high-resolution outputs can expose utility mark out information.
